Jos Richardson & Son to Operate Filling Station on new M1 Services at Leeds Skelton Lake.

We are delighted to announce that we have been selected to operate the Filling Station on the new Motorway Service Area (MSA) at Leeds Skelton Lake.

The new MSA is being built by Extra MSA Group, who have invested £60m in developing a landmark service area just off the M1 at Junction 45.  The site will include a Food Court Building with many popular brands including KFC, Starbucks, Burger King, Pizza Express and LEON and a 100 bed Ramada Hotel.

Jos Richardson & Son  were approached by Extra and Valero, who have been granted the head lease, as preferred operators of the Texaco Filling Station on the site.  We will also operate the 4500sq ft shop, which will be branded SPAR and feature the ‘Daily Deli’ food to go offer and Costa Express Coffee. There will also be an off-licence, cash machine and customer parking.

The forecourt will feature 10 retail pump islands serving all four fuel grades, including Supreme Diesel and Supreme Unleaded. A separate HGV Forecourt will have five lanes serving diesel and AdBlue, and will include outside payment terminals.

Commenting on the project Managing Director Joseph Richardson said . Throughout our history Jos Richardson & Son Ltd has been open to new challenges and opportunities and we are thrilled to be working with Extra and Valero on this exciting new project.  We are very proud that we were selected to operate the filling station at Leeds Skelton Lake Services which is testament to the high standards we achieve on our existing forecourts. We look forward to bringing our family business ethos of hard work and commitment to excellence to Leeds Skelton Lake which we are sure will delight our new customers.”

The service area facilities have been designed to set new standards for the motorway network and MSA sector and will complement the adjacent Skelton Lake. The Food Court building features sweeping and exposed ‘glulam’ timber beams with an undulating ‘Living Green Roof’ to tie into the natural landscape. It will also include a Wildlife Visitor Centre and Business Centre, set within landscaped grounds connecting with the lakeside walks and wider local countryside.

Andrew Long, CEO of Extra MSA Group, confirmed, “We are pleased to be working with Jos Richardson & Son Ltd, as a successful Yorkshire family business, to deliver high operating standards and further enhance the overall good customer experience at our latest Extra ‘umbrella branded’ MSA development.

Jos Richardson & Son’s legal advice was led by Chris Waterhouse, a real estate partner with Andrew Jackson Solicitors, who said: – “We are really delighted that our client has been chosen to operate the filling station and shop for the new MSA at Leeds Skelton Lake. Having worked with this great family business for many years, we were happy to be able to provide support to the team and we wish them every success with their latest venture.”
